Currently there is one main level, New York and two Mafia Wars expansion levels, Cuba and Moscow, respectively. All feature different jobs, job tiers, businesses, bonus loot and even exclusive currency that can only be used on that expansion. It shows that the game is here to stay for the long haul in the realm of social games for Facebook, Myspace and iPhone.
As of right now Mafia Wars is the most popular game that Zynga Social Games makes with the platform on Facebook claiming that over 4 million users play everyday. After generating so much popularity in a year the Cuba expansion was launched, Even less time passed when the Moscow expansion was announced. As of this writing it hasn't been released but should be within the next couple weeks.
The Mafia Wars expansion for Cuba featured 6 job tiers, New York had 5. Instead of owning properties to earn money like in NY, you were given the opportunity to buy and expand businesses to earn Cuban Pesos. The expansion also featured new weapons and new loot items adding a whole new dimension to the already popular game.
For the Mafia Wars Moscow expansion special items were available as loot drops. These were only available for a limited time and are long gone now. Currently there is a special preview of some of the special features that are available once the expansion is launched. All in all it's looking like it will be a lot of fun. Any thoughts on what the next expansion might be? Personally I'm hoping for the Yakuza of Japan or the Triads!
